ABRHM is an interdisciplinary creative practice founded and directed by Angel
Escobar-Rodas. Angel is a trained architect,
artist, and builder, with a diverse background in design. Born and raised in Los
Angeles; a son to refugees brought up with intertwined cultural influences, his
perspective is shaped by a trajectory that spans multiple, often contrasting
worlds. He has worked as a construction laborer alongside immigrant
tradespeople, served as a U.S. Navy mechanic deployed to humanitarian and
geopolitical events across the globe, and later entered the unfamiliar terrain
of academia as a first-generation college student.
The practice engages in painting, sculpture, installation, publication,
architecture, and development, all in an intertwined poetics of place and phenomenon of pause. The practice foregrounds color, form, and spatial composition as tools for
generating reflective environments.
